There is no honest average settlement for a truck accident, and any site that gives you one is guessing. What we can show you is real: the results our firm has obtained in commercial truck cases in Acadiana, and the things that actually moved the value in each of them.
Past results are not a guarantee of future successes. Every case depends on its own facts.

What is the average truck accident settlement in Louisiana?
There is no reliable average, because the published ones mix a sore neck with a spinal fusion and a death. An average built that way describes no real case, including yours. The useful question is not what the average is. It is what your case has in it, and whether there is enough commercial insurance behind the truck to cover it.

Six of our 16 recent results came from crashes with commercial trucks or commercial vehicles. That is not an accident of who called us. It is the work the firm is built around. You can also see all of our case results.
Why is there usually more money available in a truck case than a car case?
Because a commercial truck carries commercial insurance, and commercial policies are written in layers. A Louisiana driver who hits you may carry the state minimum. An interstate motor carrier is required to carry far more, often with an excess layer above the primary policy, and sometimes with separate coverage for the tractor and the trailer when different companies own them.
That matters for a simple reason. In a car case the available coverage is frequently the ceiling on what anyone can recover, no matter how hurt you are. In a truck case it usually is not. The case gets valued closer to what the injury is actually worth, which is why the same injury can be worth several times more when the vehicle that caused it was commercial.
Who exactly is on the hook, and how the tractor and trailer ownership question works, is covered on our truck accident page.
What decides the value of a Louisiana truck accident claim?
Five things, in roughly this order: how badly you were hurt, what care you will still need years from now, what you have lost in income and will lose going forward, how strong the proof of fault is, and how much commercial coverage is actually available.
The one most people underrate is future care. A surgery you have not had yet is part of the case. So is a second one your surgeon says is coming. A claim settled before anyone knows whether you need the fusion is a claim settled for less than it was worth, and it cannot be reopened.
What evidence changes the value of a truck case, and how fast does it go away?
The evidence that makes a truck case valuable is mostly electronic, and much of it is destroyed on a schedule measured in weeks. Electronic logging device data, dashcam footage, engine control module downloads, driver qualification files, maintenance and inspection records, and the dispatch messages behind the run. A carrier’s retention policy is not misconduct, it is a calendar, and once the calendar runs the evidence is gone.
This is the single biggest difference between a truck case handled early and the same case handled late. It is also why the answer to “should I wait and see how I feel” is different here than it is after a fender bender.
Does it matter whether the firm will actually try the case?
It matters more than anything else on this page, and not because most cases go to trial. Most do not, and settling is often the right result for the client. It matters because the number an insurance company offers depends on what it believes will happen if it refuses.
Our record includes a federal court judgment against the United States Government (the FBI) after trial, in a case where the government had offered $50,000 before suit. Blase Inzina spent 12 years defending insurance companies before switching sides, so he knows how a carrier sorts the files it can close cheaply from the files it cannot.
